Apoquel tablets for dogs in India from Zoetis Petcare is an anti-itch or allergy medicine usually prescribed by veterinarians in cases of extreme skin itching and pruritus like atopic dermatitis, atopy, skin allergies, food allergies, flea allergies etc. It is a novel and better approach to preventing itching unlike regular itch remedies like antihistamines, prednisolone, and steroids(hydrocortisone) which usually show many side effects. Side effects are 1 in 10,000(much less) for Apoquel and works better as well.

Apoquel is the first, and still the only, Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor approved for use in dogs. The oclacitinib in apoquel works by inhibiting enzymes involved in allergic itch and inflammation in dogs. It inhibits the functioning of a variety of pruritogenic and proinflammatory cytokines, including JAK1- and JAK3-dependent cytokines while having only minimal effect on JAK2-dependent cytokines.

Apoquel FCT delivers fast relief that begins to control itch within 4 hours, comparable to oral steroids, in dogs with allergic dermatitis with the least side effects. Nonsteroidal Apoquel targets specific cytokines that cause itch and inflammation, relieving symptoms of allergic skin disease with minimal impact on the immune system. Starts working within 4 hours of administration. Relieves itching within 4 hours and effectively controls itching within 24 hours of administration.

Suitable for short-term as well as long-term use. Can also be used in cases of flare-ups. In case of long-term use, it can be discontinued without tapering.

Available in 2 variants in the Indian market:-

1. Apoquel 5.4mg tablets for dogs & puppies of bodyweight up to 10kg.
2. Apoquel 16mg tablets for large dogs of weight 20kg and above.

Dosage: Usual dosage is 0.4 to 0.6 mg/kg body weight in dogs(approx. 5-6mg for 10kg dog or approx. 16mg for 27kg dog). Apoquel should be given twice daily (BD) for up to 14 days of therapy and once daily thereafter for maintenance or as prescribed by vet. Dosage should be followed strictly as per veterinarian guidance.

Use under Vet guidance only, do not self-medicate just because your dog is itchy. Safe to use in dogs with a minimum of 12 months of age and older. Not for use in breeding/pregnant/lactating pets. Oral administration only. Can be given directly or mixed with food, Do not use apoquel in pregnant or lactating bitches as told earlier or dogs with recurrent infection as it is an immunomodulator(immunosuppressant). Do not use in dogs with a history of tumors/ cancer and dogs suffering from demodex mange.

Ingredients: Each tablet of apoquel for dogs contains the active ingredient Oclacitinib Maleate 5.4mg or 16 mg as per the dosage chosen. The chemical composition of apoquel is N-methyl[trans-4-(methyl-7H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4-ylamino) cyclohexyl]methanesulfonamide (2Z)-2-butenedioate.
